Site visit to CAC mech. room

Today I visited the mechanical room of the CAC to see the installed solar hot water system. I learned that the solar hot water system is just a supplementary to the gas boilers already there. it is mainly used to preheat the incoming water supply. this should extend the life expectancy of the current boilers, and reduce the amount of gas needed to heat the water to the final temp.

  1. Otto,

I found some great diagrams for your project. They show how a solar radiant hot water system works.

  3. Are you looking for comparison analysis' for other solar collectors. If so check this out. It is case study of Plate vs Vacuum Tube.

  4. Hi Otto,

I just found a do it yourself hot water system for $1000.00. They go through the process and provide the plans for free. I thought maybe it could be of help with your project. It goes through simple schematics and whatnot.

    Here is the link.

  6. Hey Otto,

I found this paper about "PERFORMANCE MODEL FOR WATER-IN-GLASS EVACUATED TUBE
SOLAR WATER HEATERS" I figured it sounded something like what you are researching and thought it might help, here is the link.

  9. Hey Otto,

I found a PDF about a study done in Melbourne Australia that shows some of the payback periods. I know they have similar-ish summers as kamloops, so I was hoping that information would be useful!
